Central Complex User Group Organizational Meeting – Tuesday, March 5 from 1 to 3
The Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) plans to set up four new user groups made up of Oakmont members to support the development of concept plans related to the Central Complex. Rex Fuller, chairman of the LRPC, gave the Board of Directors an overview of the user group structure at its February meeting. The Board has hired community planners ArchiLOGIX (ALX) to develop a minimum of three concept plan options to address the future needs of the Oakmont Central Complex area as generated by Oakmont 2030 Community conversations.
The LRPC will hold a 2030 User Group organizational meeting on Tuesday, March 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Berger Center and via Zoom to solicit participants and volunteers for four user groups. Fuller said the early conceptual work will also include a Walk Audit of the 1⁄2 mile area around the Central Complex, an activity based on the AARP Walk Audit tool kit and the AARP Livable Community Initiative. The Audit will assist the planning process to integrate surrounding streets and sidewalks into the Central Complex.

The user groups will explore four areas of activities in the Central Complex.
- Fitness User Group will include users such as lawn bowling, the fitness center, pétanque, pool users, billiards, ping pong, and additional sports
- Indoor Gatherings User Group will look at Cafes/Coffee Shop, meeting rooms and indoor event space for users such as Boomers, ShaBoom, Lifelong Learning, Tax Prep, Rainbow Women, MYN events, Sunday Symposium, Oakmont Jewish Club, line dancing, Yoga, OHI and OVA sponsored events.
- Education and Arts User Group will include the Technology Center, the Library. Maker Groups like stitchers and quilters, craft groups, music groups, Jazz Club, Cards and Games, and the Art Association.
- Outdoor Gatherings User Group will explore a Landscape Park, an Event Plaza and outdoor meeting space.
User Groups will drill down into the current and future needs of Oakmont. Their work will include an intensive fact-finding phase that will examine the functionality, usability and connectivity of Oakmont’s indoor and outdoor spaces as described by users of the space. It is expected that User Group participants will meet from March 6 to March 25 and will be required to contribute a minimum of 20 hours of work during that time.
Fuller said the LRPC is committed to supporting ArchiLOGIX as it develops multiple conceptual plans for consideration by the Oakmont Board. “This community-driven phase of the planning process is a crucial step before the Board makes any decisions or takes any substantive action that would affect the Central Complex area,” he said.
“There are no predetermined priorities at this time,” said Fuller. “We are respectful of the investments we’ve all made in our assets in the Central Complex and are pleased to be working with ArchiLOGIX to develop data-driven design concepts that will enhance the functionality and livability of Oakmont’s Central Complex. As work progresses, we will keep residents informed using a resource room, Oakmont News and Inside Oakmont articles, and multiple community conversations.
