As we Enter the Fire Season – Remembering the October Fires [VIDEO]
Today marks the seven month anniversary of the October wildfires. It is significant in that it also marks the beginning of the long dry hot summer season when the grasses begin to turn the golden brown that California is known for. The green grass provided a beautiful contrast to the black ash from the fires. It also provided hope for many who were weary from the stress caused by our October ordeal.
But it’s much more complicated as we move forward. Yes, the resilience of nature is wonderful to behold. But the ash provided nutrients that have made this year’s grasses in burned areas taller and thicker than I have seen in my years in Sonoma county. This fact also needs to be a part of our reality as we move forward. Our journey forward needs to be a healthy combination of both hope and awareness.
